Who are speakers John C. Dvorak and Om Malik?

by Patrick Havens

In a lot of ways I shouldn’t have to explain who the presenters of Blogs vs. Journalism are, but in case you haven’t followed the same news… Here are short overview/bios of John C. Dvorak and Om Malik.

John Dvorak I remember well from his article on PC World. Though at times I disagreed with his views on Windows, I have to admit he was very intellegant and was a very good writer. One of the first technology writers to blog regularly (I believe). From his own site:

John C. DvorakCurrent PC Magazine Columnist writing Inside Track, an essay and a weekly online column. These articles are licensed around the world. Also a weekly columnist for Dow-Jones Marketwatch, Info! (Brazil) and BUG Magazine (Croatia). Previously a columnist for Forbes, Forbes Digital, PC World, MacUser, PC/Computing, Barrons, Smart Business and other magazines and newspapers. Former editor and consulting editor for Infoworld. Has appeared in the New York Times, LA Times, SF Examiner, Vancouver Sun. Was on the start-up team for CNet TV as well as ZDTV. At ZDTV (and TechTV) was host of Silicon Spin for four years doing 1000 live and live-to-tape TV shows. Also was on public radio for 8 years. Written over 4000 articles and columns as well as authoring or co-authoring 14 books.

All in all you should find him an interesting presenter and well informed. He does such a good job in his prep work, I know I won’t be wondering when lunch starts.

Om MalikNow Om Malik I’ve only heard of from time to time, which really surprises me considering the breadth of his writing. A former Senior Writer at Red Herring, he’s written everything from articles to books about Technology and Business 2.0. He’s currently writing in his personal blog GigaOM which I remember reading multiple times. One of those blogs linked to many times as source. GigaOM is a great example of a for profit blog.
